Cattleya skinneri

Cattleya skinneri - Plant photo by Richard LindbergThe genus Cattleya (C) contains quite a few species from tropical South America. They do best in a medium that has good drainage and dry between watering. Give them a short dryer rest after blooming.

Cattleya skinneri grows from southern Mexico to Costa Rica on tree trunks and rocks. It is fragrant, cool to hot growing in very bright light. It blooms in winter and spring.

This is potted in sphagnum over peanuts in a 4-inch clay pot. There are five pseudobulbs and it stands four inches above the pot.
