I have been growing orchids since 1999. I am very interested in learning more about orchids and get to see many spectacular orchids each month. It is a full-time avocation.
I grow 400 plants and 150 species in a 9 x 12 x 9 greenhouse. If that seems pretty small for that many plants, I have to agree. No neat benches, more like a jungle with a number of micro climates available.
I am on a budget. I try to add to my collection in the most economical fashion possible. Hence my interest in backbulbs. I have more time than money, therefore I am willing to invest two or three years in a new species.
Orchids are my life. I belong to the American Orchid Society, the San Francisco Orchid Society and the Sonoma County Orchid Society. I study orchids so I'll know where each of my orchids grow in nature.
I don't claim to be an authority on orchids. Take what you like and leave the rest. I will tell you what I did and if that helps you at all, that's great. I know it will help me if I have to explain the process.
